History and Mission

Established in 1947 and incorporated in 1994, the Minnesota Women's Public Golf Association (MWPGA) was organized to serve the needs and interests of the state's women public golfers. Public courses in this case are defined as any course offering playing privileges to the general public on a daily fee basis. The MWPGA currently has over 75 member leagues representing over 5,500 women from courses in Minnesota.

The primary purpose of the Association is to:
1. Support and promote the interest of women’s golf in Minnesota.
2. Provide a State Publinks Championship, State Senior Publinks Championship, Match Play Championship, Four-Ball Championship, and Team/Club Championship for its members each year.
3. Serve as a statewide informational network and promote cooperation among member leagues.
4. Provide a newsletter twice yearly to League Representatives and tournament players.

The MWPGA is interested and involved in all aspects of women's golf. It supports various non-profit organizations with the goal of increasing women’s participation in golf. In addition, a Rules and Etiquette Education Program is offered as an ongoing service to member leagues.

The MWPGA maintains a close working relationship with the USGA and state golf associations such as the Minnesota Golf Association (MGA), Minnesota Women's Golf Association (MWGA), and the Minnesota Public Golf Association (MPGA), which facilitates focus and work on areas of mutual concern. The president and vice president of the MWPGA are members of the MGA Board of Directors which opens yet another channel of communication with regard to the future of Minnesota golf.

MWPGA membership is open to regularly organized daily fee public or semi-private golf leagues in the state of Minnesota, which offer membership to women, including "Leagues Without Real Estate.” Association meetings are held semi-annually, and although informational mailings are directed to a designated League Representative, all members are welcome to attend and participate.
